Well I am planning my daughter's wedding and she is too busy w/ grad school and wanting to finally be married after dating six or seven years (most of it long-distance) that she said if I wasn't helping her with many of the details, she'd get married on a street corner with a Twinkies for the cake.
Yes, as the divorce rate goes up (over 50% in the U.S.) and families are separated, it is quite interesting the energy and expense that goes into making over-the-top weddings as though they are putting everything into a myth rather than into the reality of what it takes to make and build a long-lasting relationship.
Marriage is not about fantasy. It is about compromise, work and a bunch of other stuff.

This part is somewhat forgotten when one is lost in the details of wedding-planning, especially when not enough thought was placed in the decision-making process (to marry or not, to marry now or not yet, etc.). Fortunately, we have a lot of pre-Cana seminars here and other marriage preparation programs where couples are made to see what being a husband/wife and being a parent really mean. =)
