Like the beat of my art

Now where did I read that quotation which goes something like 'art makes life more bearable..."? It made me think of the posts I placed on this blog that delved on art, and here are some of photos I unearthed. Quirky art!

An interesting flower vase, but I think it can stand on its own and light up a corner even without the pretty blooms. See more of Curlin Reed Sullivan's art here.

This looks yummy but then it's not ice cream. In fact, it's not edible at all -- it's soap! You can see more yummy inedibles at Soapylove!

Fawna on your fingers... in sterling. Figs & Ginger is a husband-and-wife team and more of the couple's work is available at their Etsy shop.

Let me share some new finds I made, which I hope you'll enjoy:

Paper typewriter by Jennifer Collier

I saw some really charming pieces when I walked into a store called Heima at Cubao Expo a couple of months ago, and this telephone lamp was one of them.

Magnificent castles (though this one looks more like a cathedral to me) demonstrating the beauty of paper craft, by Wataru Itou.

Cartoon animation is one of my favorite forms of art, so I decided to add this one, which I find quite engaging:

A bright photo....

...for a rainy day --

It's supposed to be the height of summer but the changing climate has become obvious the past couple of weeks. Imagine, a thunderstorm in April! One night had rain coming down in sheets and lightning and nerve-wracking thunder sending my dog Sabrina whimpering and scampering for protection under the car, behind some old boxes and who knows where else until the following morning when -- after repeated rounds of the yard, garage, and every other spot outside the house -- I saw her emerge from amid ferns and bushes behind a small image of the Virgin Mary near the front door. Even the dog knows where to take refuge during "tempestuous times."

By the way, the photo above is from the charming craft and sewing blog Hello My Name is Heather.

And check it out -- a magazine bowl!

Came across this after some blog-hopping when I ended up at Patricia Zapata's blog entry on how to fashion this bowl. This is the kind of art and recycling I'd like to try my hand at -- especially as I've got tons of magazines that I really don't want to trash. But when they're taking up too much of your limited space, what do you do with them? I've made two little "log cabins" out of some pages -- photos of which I'd yet to take -- but those account for only about 40 or 50 mag pages. Looks like these bowls will be my next project :-) See more of Patricia Zapata's imaginative recycled art here.

The incredible little inedibles

More remarkable finds via Modish, a blog I've been visiting daily for its innovative works of art such as these from Pukashell Creative Designs (though I'm still looking for the puka shells in them tiny creations):

Sweetheart cake pin

Bonbon magnets (these are crocheted)

Fairy cake (great for collectors of miniature "delectables" -- crocheted, too)

Sweet treats dessert ring

'Knitworking'

Two friends, Susan and Florence, went on a trip to Peru and discovered entire villages of expert knitters who have kept the tradition alive all these years. They decided to create their own line of knitted products for kids, starting with sweaters and hats, "often with a finger puppet peeping out of a pocket." Thus began something they named Blabla...

** Do check out the "about blabla" page -- cute photos (including those of the Peruvian knitters at work) and interesting bios are in there.
